Las Vegas Hotels I've Stayed In

Just for fun. I've been to Las Vegas 7 times (and am going again in May!). Here are the hotels I've graced with with my presence.

The Luxor
Still a soft spot in my heart for this one. I know people say it's old and shitty now, but I absolutely love this one. The very first I ever stayed in. I was ten; it was a family vacation with my parents. I spent the entire trip riding the 3-d thrill ride "In Search of the Obelisk." How do I still remember that?

MGM Grand
When I stayed there this was a very family oriented hotel. There was a theme park in the back and coming in the entrance, a Wizard of Oz themed display. I don't remember much else of this one, though years later I would wake up in it not remembering how I got there...

The Mirage
My absolute favorite hotel. Period. A Las Vegas classic. I saw Sigfried and Roy here. I love the dolphins and the waterfall pool. Plus, the 100ft long aquarium at check in. This is just a great hotel.

Excalibur
Honestly, a pretty shitty hotel. I saw the Knights show and even a dog show, but there's really not a whole lot else I can say about it. I wish it no harm, but I wouldn't stay there again.

The Winn
When I stayed there it was the newest and most expensive Vegas hotel ever built. Snazzy decor, high end shopping, and a hot hot hot night club: this place makes my nice and naughty list. ;)

The Palazzo
Probably the least impressive hotel externally, this place had the nicest rooms of any hotel where I've stayed. We fit 6 ladies in the early 20's comfortably with room to spare. The exclusive pool is a great place to get shit-faced for around $150 dollars and pass out too.

I've also stayed in a hostel and a condo off the strip. The hostel was actually pretty awesome. Something like $14 dollars a night with a pool open 24/7 and really funny front desk employees with absolutely insane "Texas" tats on their biceps (ok, so that was one specific guy). When I go back in May I'll be staying at the New York, New York, which I'm excited for because I love the roller coaster on top. Anyway, that was fun.

Viva Las Vegas!

Vegas 2.0

Don't even try and tell me this isn't the most fabulous photo you've ever seen. Cause it is.

Vegas 2.0 was (if you can believe it) even better than the first time around. Matching outfits, crazier stories, hotter boys. ;) Unbelievable.

I even became a tad bit smitt'n over a special somebody. Oh, being young and care free. How sweet it all is!

Spring Break

Back in Boulder now, after a rousing and delightful holiday. Starting things off right 5 other lovely young ladies accompanied me to Las Vegas where we ate, drank, and danced the nights away. We had such a wonderful time, I really could not recount it all here. Vegas may be one of my favorite vacation spots. Good times are always a guarantee.

Here are some friends we made there. Good ol' OTB Italians. ;) From the left we have Paolo, Francesco, Fabrizio, and Masimo. Classic.

After Vegas was a brief stint home where I chilled with mom and Julz, and hit up Britney Spears with none other than the Justin Misenhelder. <3 you guys!

A great break. I'm just tired now, dreading comps defense Wednesday and all the work I have left this semester. Can't it be done now? PLEASE?!

Oh well, the countdown is on. Ciao!

Spring Break Has Kinda Begun

So, I'm not in the clear. I still have the oral defense of my comps, I'm not sure how I did on them, and there's the rest of the semester to worry about. I also haven't just breathed out this huge sigh of relief or anything either. My health stuff is still an issue and I've been so tightly wound over all of this that just relaxing is hard.

But, I doooooo feel a 1,000 times better and with comps out of the way (at least the prepping for them) I feel like I can put my energy and attention to other purposes now, which is nice.

I have some grading to do before I skedaddle outta here to LAS VEGAS on Sunday (eeeeaaaarrrly Sunday). Other than that, I'm pretty much done with work till I get back. I'm certainly not getting a jumpstart on all the stuff to come. Screw that; I've been working hard enough.

Last night was delightful. After class, Amanda and I went to Baker's Street Pub. We had way too many wings, two margaritas and an Irish Car Bomb in honor of St. Patrick. ;) I also made a complete fool out of myself in front of one of the band members who were playing. Wireless guitars are really tricky sometimes...

Anyway, feeling a lot better overall. Hoping for brighter posts in the future!

Ooooooo Baby!

Ok, enough whining about my health and schoolwork. Don't have the test results yet and comps is going to happen whether I want them to or not. Soooo...

Here's looking ahead!

Las Vegas!
Wooooot! Leaving March 22 for four days three fantastic nights in Sin City! And you best believe I'll be taking part in all of it coming off my comps. ;) Here's to shopping, eating, partying, and sleeping (we're staying at the Wynn!) like a total rock star. Go big or go home!

Car!
Daddy waxed my car (and cleaned everything in it, including the engine), got me mats with the Saab logo, fixed everything little thing that was even slightly out of wack. Oh man, I can't wait to get back to the 'burgh and drive this baby!

Denmark & Finland!
Graduation present to myself. Going abroad again (because what else do I do?). Scandinavia is the greatest place in the world and on this trip I'll check the final two Nordic countries off the list to vist. Woooooooot!

Withdrawal

This song (along with several by Alkaline Trio, The Fashion, and AmSteel) was the theme song of our Vegas excursion. Enjoy.

Vegas (cont.)

Now where were we? Ah, yes. Just about to get to the good part. (Oh, that's right, we haven't arrived at the good part yet.)

The record label party was a little long in coming. Which actually provided us with more good times and entertainment. Lisa and I split up and I accompanied The Fashion to a sophisticated little lounge area where I introduced t.b. to Framboise (and scolded him for having never tried it living so close to Belgium). We laughed more, and joked more. Sports Center was playing overhead which lead us to an interesting conversation about sports (American sports are either boring: baseball; or make no sense: football--but you don't use your feet). Of course, being from Europe, he was a huge 'soccer' fan. And when I asked him what his plans were upon returning to Denmark he said he had a court date.

"For what?"

"Punching a cop in the face." (At a football/soccer game)

He told me the story and I laughed like hell. Then I told him my near D.U.I. tale. And we toasted numerous times to various things.

Party time.

Everything you know about record label parties from movies, TV, E! True Hollywood Stories, and celebrity interviews is absolutely true. All of it.

They rented out a club in Mandalay Bay where there were scantly clad cocktail waitresses buzzing about fulfilling your every whim (and glass). Open bar, a burlesque routine, live band, dance floor, drug use...you name a sex, drugs, and rock & roll cliche, it was present and going strong.

We partied hardy throughout the night. I never slept on Friday and made it to the airport successfully with Lisa for our 12pm flight, which was, of course, packed, and we stand-by fliers were stuck until 2 when we made it out to Philly arriving near 10pm East Coast time. We bummed around the airport making desperate attempts to grab some sleep, but even with having slept only 3 hours the past two nights the atmosphere of that place was so terrible that neither of us could get in more than about 30 minutes without one of the 47 florescent lights, the deafening classical music, or CNN's Black in America programming bringing out much deserved rest to a screeching halt. (Phuk Philly)

Our flight departed at 7:30am. I got about 4 hours in before having to get up and get to Dara's Charity Benefit on Mt. Washington. It was a lovely evening, which I was surprisingly not that tired for. Caleb was a minor trouble maker which brought a smile to my face, and I got to see someone I hadn't seen in 5 years who I worked with at Jumonville.

But, really, nothing else can compare to Friday night. I mean, the past couple days I've practically been in withdrawal, just going through the motions because it's probably going to be a while before I can top that trip, specifically that night. So, for now, I'm off to clean up and ready myself for the start of a fall semester.

Here's to living every moment to the absolute fullest, taking risks and chances, never caring what another person thinks, and doing it "my way."

2 things

1. Thank you, Brittany.

2. Vegas:

I don't know where to begin. I had no idea it was possible to do so much in 48 hours. Life is a funny, funny thing.

To fully appreciate my weekend excursion, the stage must be set properly. In order to do that, we must go back two weeks to me and Lisa's mini (by comparison) adventure beginning in Cleveland and winding up in Baltimore. Upon entering the House of Blues in Cleveland, I immediately became enamored with the bass play of the opening band. Lisa has a history with the lead singer of the second band in the line up. And so, we had worlds of fun frolicking back stage and spending the night with American Steel (her band connection).

I didn't get to spend much time with The Fashion that night. Only spoke briefly with their roadie and drummer. I smiled at the bas player, but then it was time to go.

In Baltimore, things were hopping. We had a great time. And I entertained the members of The Fashion for what seemed like hours with my whiskey enhanced attempts at Danish and classy toasts. But, alas, as t.b. player and I started talking it was time for them to be whisked away to New York. My fantasy was coming to an end...

...or so I thought.

Fast forward to last Thursday. Because of my nutty-ness and lust for good stories, I planned a 48 hour whirlwind trip to Vegas, planning to go alone. At the last minute I convinced Lisa to come along and she will forever be glad that she did.

We didn't have a plan. All we knew is that we arrived at 9:30 Thursday morning, the sold-out show was at 7 Friday night, and that maybe--maybe--Rory (American Steel's lead signer) could come through for us as he did in Cleveland and Baltimore to get us on the list. No need for tickets.

But that was anything but pressing. We decided to not even worry about that until the following afternoon. After all, we had a city of sin to indulge in.

Well, one gondola ride, 20 something awe-inspiring hotels, one Slash's birthday bash, two night clubs, a stupendous, button busting buffet (twice!), a 3 am dip in the pool, 3 Grand Marnier margaritas, $300 in shopping, cutting a rug on the bar, and one 7am walk of shame later we were ready for day two.

Total hours of Thursday night sleep: 2 1/2

We hit the streets for a second day with $1 frozen margaritas, the best $25 ever spent (a.k.a. the wax museum) and some high end window shopping. By 2pm it was time for the all or nothing text message. Our response was less than encouraging, but at least we got one:

"Oh no! I wish you would have told me sooner. We have so many friends coming to the show I don't know if we can get you on, but I'll see what I can do."

Ok, no worries. I mean, Lisa was a little more stressed than I. After all, I had nothing to lose, and was just having a great time being in Vegas. But I decided we should go back and get ready and go to the show anyway, even if we never heard back from Rory. There's always tickets available to a sold out show.

6:30. On the bus to the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay. And then, sweet victory. A text from Rory--"You're on."

Yes.

We got to the window with no time to spare. Our complimentary tickets were handed to us and we strutted through the door like true VIPers, which we weren't but whatever. I had never even heard of Alkaline Trio as of three weeks ago, but by this point I had chilled in their green room in two different cities.

The Fashion were already playing. We worked our way to the center of the crowd and danced like little girls in running through sprinklers on a steamy summer afternoon. We stood out in this punk arrangement with "scene kids" crossing their arms and looking on with contempt. I was having the time of my life. Not only had everything worked out for me (as usual) but I really do think that The Fashion rock. And then things got better. Around the fourth song I caught t.b. player's eye. His pick was clinched in his teeth which he revealed in a delighted smile, to which he added and point and a wink. He saw, recognized, and was excited to see me. How could this be?! How enchanting. I squeezed Lisa's hand...this night had only just begun.

We stayed though American Steel's set and then bolted for the merch tables to hang out with Danthrax (AmSteel's roadie) and The Fashion. They filtered out one at a time from the backstage, and with each new addition came hugs and excitement for seeing me there. I didn't even think they'd remember who I was. They laughed about me buying a t-shirt, since I could have gotten one for free for simply sleeping with Anders. All of them went on and on at how the only audience member they ever showed on the backstage monitor was me. "You don't understand," screamed Jackob, the over expressive lead signer, "it wasn't like they kept showing your section or you and the person next to you. No. It was just your face the whole time!"

What can I say? The camera man had a crush on me.

At this point t.b. player still hadn't arrived. Anders warned me that the two of them were roommates that night and that anything that happened between t.b. and I was going on back at my place cause he wasn't dealing with it. I laughed, but also was amazed at this since I never would have thought that it was some kind of common knowledge that he and I had hit it off.

Remember, I was still taken aback by them remembering my face.

My time at the merch table that night was some of the best times. We just laughed and joked for the rest of the show. A great fight went down a few yards in front of us, and when Alkaline Trio had called it quits for the night Lisa (who had gone back into the HOB to watch the show) and I found ourselves to be the guests of the Fashion and AmSteel for the official Epic Records after party.

...more to come.
